Metrobus route 9A offers discounted fares for Fairfax County customers

A discounted bus fare of 50 cents will be implemented on the Fairfax County portion of Metrobus Route 9A (the Richmond Highway Line), as well as the Fairfax Connector routes that serve the Richmond Highway corridor starting Sunday, June 29. The reduced fare (usually $1.20) of 50 cents will apply to all customers who board at stops in Fairfax County as follows:" Northbound: from southern terminals (Lorton VRE station, Fort Belvoir, Route 1, and Mt. Vernon Highway) to Huntington Avenue and Hunting Creek Road eastbound (last stop on Huntington Avenue, after passing the Huntington Metrorail station)." Southbound: from Old Richmond Highway and Cameron Run Terrace to southern terminals (Fort Belvoir and Lorton VRE Station). Customers who pay a cash fare will, upon request, be issued a transfer valid for the full regular fare of $1.20. Elderly and disabled customers will receive a discount from their usual 60-cent fare to just 50 cents so that the elderly and disabled fares are consistent with the reduced fare paid by other customers. Valid transfers and passes will be accepted for full fare. Commutation tickets will be accepted for full fare through December 31, 2003. Customers who board at the Huntington Metrorail station with a rail transfer will only have to pay the usual 35-cent transfer fare. The reduced fare does not apply to customers boarding Route 9A in Arlington or Alexandria. The Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation subsidizes reduced bus fares on a rotating basis in a selected corridor each fiscal year to encourage mass transit usage, reduce traffic congestion, and improve air quality.
