Metro’s 4th of July service brochure has "Hit the Streets"

Metro’s 4th of July Service brochure, for use by customers traveling to the National Mall and around the region for July 4th events, has been distributed to Take One racks at Metrorail stations and on Metrobuses. The brochure includes a special Metrorail Map, downtown D.C. Walking map, and tips for using Metro on July 4th. It also summarizes Metrorail and Metrobus shuttle service for July 4th only. These brochures will be available as long as supplies last. Highlights of the brochure service information and tips for using Metro on the 4th include the following:∙ Service will begin at 7 a.m. on July 4th and end at 3 a.m. the next morning (during the first full weekend of extended Metrorail service hours).∙ Smithsonian Station is CLOSED all day.∙ Starting a 11 a.m., Red Line trains will alternate final destinations between Silver Spring and Glenmont.∙ Starting at 3 p.m., Green Line trains will alternate final destinations between Fort Totten and Greenbelt.∙ Orange Line trains from Stadium-Armory will alternation between New Carrollton and Addison Road-Seat Pleasant.∙ Blue Line trains will run between Huntington and Rosslyn (upper platform). ∙ A free shuttle bus will run every 15 minutes between the Franconi-Springfield station and Springfield Mall at the Macy’s parking lot from 6 p.m. until closing.∙ Parking is free at all Metro-operated lots. ∙ New Metro fares will be in effect. Buy multiple farecards by using a Passes/Farecards maching in stations ahead of time. If planning to ride a lot, consider purchasing the $6 One Day Metrorail Pass and the $3 One Day Metrobus Pass.∙ Keep farecards clean and dry so they will work in the faregates.∙ Listen to station and trains announcements, and watch for updates on the electronic message boards inside Metrorail stations.∙ Check the final destination on the side of the train to be sure you" re boarding the right train.∙ Due to security restrictions on the National Mall, everyone will pass through checkpoints.∙ Oversized coolers and glass bottles/containers will not be allowed.∙ Due to the anticipated large crowds on July 4th, bicycles will not be allowed. Station managers, Metro employees in MIP (Metro Information Persons) T-shirts and matching caps, and police officers will be on hand to assist customers and help with the flow of crowds into and out of stations.
