Metrobus looks to third parties to pay damages from accidents

Metro’s Board of Directors expects to recover more money from drivers of private vehicles who are at fault in accidents that damage Metrobuses. Today, the Board gave approval for Metro managers to approve a contract to hire an outside appraisal firm to quantify property damage to Metrobuses caused by drivers of other vehicles and recover damages resulting from the accidents. Metro officials expect that the one-year contract with an appraiser will cost approximately $90,000, and during the same period will result in the recovery of several hundred thousand dollars in damages during the term of the contract. Metrobuses cost approximately $350,000 each and depending on the damages incurred in an accident, parts can be costly to repair.
