Metro Announces Track Work Scheduled For Next Week

As part of its ongoing program to improve customer service and continue the rehabilitation of the 27-year-old Metrorail system, Metro will conduct track work next week on the Red, Blue, and Orange lines. During this work period, customers" trips may take longer than usual on the affected lines. Please note the following track work scheduled for next week will occur from 10 p.m. to closing:" Red Line - between Friendship Heights and Medical Center. This work will occur on Sunday, September 7, and Monday, September 8." Blue/Orange Line - between Eastern Market and Stadium Armory. This work will occur on Sunday, September 7, and Monday, September 8." Red Line - between Van Ness-UDC and Friendship Heights. This work will occur on Tuesday, September 9, and Wednesday, September 10." Blue/Orange Line - between Federal Center SW and Eastern Market. This work will occur on Tuesday, September 9, and Wednesday, September 10. To perform this work, Metro must single-track trains " operate trains traveling in opposite directions alternately on the same track. On these portions of the Red, Blue, and Orange lines, Metro personnel will install communication cables. Customers may experience a delay of five to 10 minutes and should allow more time for their trip. Metro sincerely apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause. To alert customers about this work, regular station announcements will be made throughout the Metrorail system.
