Metro to single track trains this weekend

As part of its ongoing program to improve customer service and continue the rehabilitation of the 27-year-old Metrorail system, Metro will single-track trains this weekend on the Red, Blue and Orange lines. During this work period, customers" trips may take slightly longer than usual on the affected lines. The following work is scheduled for this weekend from opening (7 a.m.) to closing (3 a.m.) on Saturday, September 6, and opening (7 a.m.) to closing (midnight) on Sunday, September 7. However, there is a possibility that work could be completed earlier than scheduled, in which case service would return to normal." Red Line - At certain times throughout the weekend, Metro will operate a rolling single track between these specific segments: Medical Center and Friendship Heights; Friendship Heights and Van Ness-UDC; Van Ness-UDC and Dupont Circle; Dupont Circle and Farragut North; Farragut North and Judiciary Square; and Judiciary Square and Union Station." Blue/Orange Line - At certain times throughout the weekend, Metro will operate a rolling single track between these specific segments: Stadium Armory and Eastern Market; Eastern Market and Federal Center SW; Federal Center SW and Smithsonian; Smithsonian and McPherson Square; and McPherson Square and Foggy Bottom. To perform this work, Metro will single track trains " operate trains traveling in opposite directions alternately on the same track. On these portions of the Red, Blue and Orange lines, Metro personnel will test communication amplifiers in support of the installation of the new comprehensive radio communications system for the D.C. Fire Department. Customers may experience a delay of five to 10 minutes on each segment of single tracking, and should allow more time for their trip. Metro sincerely apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause. To alert customers about this work, regular station announcements will be made throughout the Metrorail system.
