Metro Prepares for Saturday’s Special Events in the Nation’s Capital


Reminder: Metrorail closes at 3 a.m. on Saturday night

With the Maryland Terrapins, D.C. United, and Bruce Springsteen in town this weekend, the best way to travel to-and-from these special events will be on Metro. Here’s how Metro is prepared to handle the large crowds expected for all three of these weekend events.RFK Stadium, Saturday, September 13 DC United vs San Jose Earthquakes, 7:30 p.m.Metro will have additional personnel on hand at the Stadium-Armory station to assist customers with questions about rail service. Metro will have additional trains ready to enter service after the game is over. Byrd Stadium, Saturday, September 13 University of Maryland Terrapins vs The Citadel Bulldogs, 6 p.m.Metro will have additional personnel on hand at the College Park-University of Maryland station to assist customers with questions about rail service. Metro will also have additional trains ready to enter service after the game is over.FedEx Field, Saturday, September 13, 7:30 p.m. Bruce Springsteen ConcertMetro will provide shuttle bus service from the Landover Metrorail station on the Orange Line and the Addison Road-Seat Pleasant Metrorail station on the Blue Line beginning at 5 p.m to FedEx Field in Landover, Maryland. The shuttle will operate up to one hour after the concert. Representatives from FedEx Field will collect $5 from Metrobus passengers after they arrive at the stadium. If necessary, Metro will have several additional trains ready to enter service, depending on the size of the crowds departing the concert.

Metro advises customers attending any of these events to follow these travel tips:

  • Buy multiple farecards faster and easier by using the Passes/Farecards machine at Metrorail stations.
  • Buy round-trip fare when first entering the system.
  • Keep farecards clean and dry so they will work on the return trip home.
  • Listen to station and train announcements.
  • Check the final destination displayed on the side of the train to be sure you’re boarding the right train.
