Metro to single track trains this weekend

As part of its ongoing program to improve customer service and continue the rehabilitation of the 27-year-old Metrorail system, Metro will single-track trains this weekend on the Green and Yellow lines. During this work period, customers" trips may take slightly longer than usual on the affected line. The following work is scheduled for this weekend from midnight to closing (3 a.m.) on Friday, September 12; opening (7 a.m.) to closing (3 a.m.) on Saturday, September 13; and opening (7 a.m.) to 3 p.m. on Sunday, September 14. However, there is a possibility that work could be completed earlier than scheduled, in which case service would return to normal.

" Green Line - At certain times throughout the weekend, Metro will operate a rolling single track between these specific segments: Fort Totten to Georgia Avenue; Georgia Avenue to U St/African-American Civil War Memorial/Cardozo; U St/African-American Civil War Memorial/Cardozo to Mount Vernon Square; Mount Vernon Square to L" Enfant Plaza; L" Enfant Plaza to Navy Yard; and Navy Yard to Anacostia.

" Yellow Line - At certain times throughout the weekend, Metro will operate a rolling single track between this specific segment: Mount Vernon Square to L" Enfant Plaza. To perform this work, Metro will single track trains " operate trains traveling in opposite directions alternately on the same track.

On these portions of the Green and Yellow lines, Metro personnel will test communication amplifiers in support of the installation of the new comprehensive radio communications system for the D.C. Fire Department. Customers may experience a delay of five to 10 minutes on each segment of single tracking, and should allow more time for their trip.

Metro sincerely apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause. To alert customers about this work, regular station announcements will be made throughout the Metrorail system.
