Metro elevator status now available via E-mail

Metro is now offering a free e-mail subscription service to notify its customers of elevator service disruptions at Metrorail stations. Customers can sign up to receive the notification at e-mail-capable computers, cellular phones, pagers, or personal digital assistants. This new electronic elevator notification service complements Metro’s "eAlerts" service which sends e-mail messages on disruptions or delays to rail service. Both the electronic elevator notification and eAlert subscription services are free and available through Metro’s web site at www.metroopensdoors.com. Customers who want to receive the service can tailor it to their specific transportation needs and patterns by signing up to receive information on specific stations’ elevators that they wish to monitor; which days of the week and times of day they wish to monitor; and which device they prefer to use for receiving the message (computer, pager, cell phone, etc.). While Metro does not charge customers for this service, depending on an individual’s Internet service provider or pager/cellular carrier, individuals may be charged a per message fee by their provider. This is not a Metro fee. Metro began piloting this service on its web site earlier this month to monitor its use and test the technology. The official launch date is October 1. Customers may also call 202-962-1212 to find out the status of Metro’s elevators and escalators.
