Metro to resume SmarTrip card sales

SmarTrip card sales will resume on Wednesday, October 1, 2003, now that Metro has received a supply of the requisite number of cards to provide them to new customers. Customers who already owned a SmarTrip card and may have been in need of a replacement card this past month was able to receive a new card. Metro suspended sales of the cards a month ago when the Authority discovered a production problem affecting approximately 25,000 SmarTrip cards.

The SmarTrip cards have been very popular with Metro customers, and more than 360,000 are in circulation today. Metro appreciates the patience customers demonstrated during the past month as the problem was worked on and resolved. For more information on riding Metrobus or Metrorail, customers are encouraged visit Metro’s Web site.
