Metrorail to open at 6 a.m. this Sunday morning

Metro will open early for the 19th Annual U.S. Army 10-Miler race

This Sunday, October 5, the Metrorail system will open one hour early, at 6 a.m., to accommodate the crowds expected to attend the 19th Annual U.S. Army 10-Miler Race which begins at 8 a.m. and concludes at noon.

The race will start on Highway 110 north near the Pentagon and proceed to the Memorial Bridge, then on to the U.S. Capitol, and the 14th Street Bridge, and finishing at the Pentagon North parking lot.

Participants and spectators are encouraged to take Metrorail to exit at the Pentagon and Pentagon City Metrorail stations on the Blue and Yellow Lines. For those driving to Metrorail stations to begin their trips, parking is free at Metro-operated parking lots and garages during weekends.

Metro offers these travel tips for riding Metro safely and conveniently this weekend:

  • Metro urges participants to buy their round-trip farecards or the $6 One Day Pass prior to October 5, or when they first enter the system.
  • Customers are advised to buy their round-trip farecards when they first enter the Metrorail system rather than at the end of the trip when lines are long.
  • Step carefully on and off escalators, trains, and buses.
  • Take special care when traveling with children.
  • Make sure children’s clothing is secure and shoelaces are tied before getting on an escalator.

For more information on Metrorail and Metrobus, customers are encouraged to call (202) 637-7000, TTY (202) 638-3780.
