Metro’s Virginia Square-GMU Station Entrance will Close early this week for routine canopy maintenance

This week (October 21 to October 23), Metro’s Virginia Square-GMU station entrance on the Orange Line will close early at 10 p.m. as personnel perform routine maintenance and inspect the canopy structure over the station entrance. Customers wishing to enter and exit the Virginia Square-GMU Metro station may continue to use the street elevator for access to the station. Earlier this year, as part of the Comprehensive Escalator Canopy Pilot Program, canopies were constructed at Brookland-CUA, L’Enfant Plaza, Medical Center, and Virginia Square-GMU. The installation of these canopies is designed to protect Metro customers, preserve the exposed escalator system from weather elements, improve escalator reliability, and extend the life span of Metrorail station escalators.
