Halloween will be " Boo-tiful" for children in Anacostia

That’s because Metro’s " Boo Bus" will be back at Anacostia Metrorail station on Halloween

On Halloween Day at 3 p.m., the " Boo Bus," Metro’s annual " haunted" bus, will be on display at the Anacostia Metrorail station at Shannon Place, S.E., between Martin Luther King Jr., and Firth Sterling avenues. Southern Avenue/Southeastern Bus division employees, some dressed in Halloween costumes, will give away bags filled with safety tips and treats in easy-to-see reflective bags for approximately 2,500 children. Metro Transit Police will have McGruff the Crime Dog on hand to greet the children and to pass out safety tips. Transit police will also provide tips on riding Metrobus responsibly as well as safely. Metrobus" " ghouls and goblins" will escort the kids, many of whom are dressed in Halloween costumes, through the ’scary talking bus" decorated like a pumpkin, complete with the sounds of Halloween music. " We feel that it’s very important to give back to the community which has shown its support of Metrobus by using our service throughout the year," said Herbert Stroman, a Southeastern Bus Division operator and one of the organizers of this event. ’so each year, operators and mechanics band together to provide this fun fest for children and their parents here in Southeast." Southern Avenue and Southeastern bus employees believe that the " Boo Bus" event is a great way for children and their parents to safely observe Halloween and avoid being on the street after dark to " trick or treat." The employees support this event, now in its 13th year, with funds they themselves donate. This is one of several outreach events these employees provide for their community throughout the year.
