Metro to operate Sunday schedule on Thanksgiving Day

On Thanksgiving Day, Metro will operate on a Sunday schedule. Metrorail will open at 7 a.m. and close at midnight. The day after Thanksgiving, Friday, November 28, Metro will operate on a weekday service schedule, with the rail system opening at 5:30 a.m. and closing at 3 a.m. the next morning. Metrorail Sales Offices Will Be Closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’sThese Offices Will Close Earlier than Usual on Christmas and New Year’s EvesMetro sales offices will be closed on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day. The Metro Center and Pentagon Sales offices will close at 4 p.m., two-and-a-half hours earlier than normal, on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve. Metro Recognizes Employees at the Annual Employee Award CeremonyMetro recently recognized employees who have made significant contributions to the Authority at the Annual Employee Award Ceremony held at the Lincoln Theater. Tangee Mobley, general superintendent for Bus Transportation, received the first ever Carmen E. Turner Memorial Award for Extraordinary Achievement. This award was in honor of the first woman and African American Metro general manager, and it symbolizes the attributes of leadership, dedication, commitment, and integrity. Ms. Mobley was recognized for her exceptional knowledge of buses and bus transportation and her extraordinary ability to make the job enjoyable. She began with WMATA in 1979 as a bus operator and has successfully climbed the corporate ladder, being the first woman to progress from bus operator to general superintendent. The Jackson Graham Memorial Award for Extraordinary Achievement went to Oscar Ravarra, a Power Systems engineer. He worked countless hours at night and on weekends to schedule, train, and assist contractors and Metro personnel in troubleshooting, repairing, and installing upgraded equipment. During the past two years, the number of Rail service miles between power interruptions has increased from 260,000 to 850,000 miles, an increase of over 300 percent. More than any other single person, this employee can claim responsibility for this improvement. He began with Metro in 1983.
