Metro’s car sharing partner launches web-based reservation system

Flexcar adds 24 more vehicles to fleet this fall

Metro’s car sharing partner, Flexcar, has launched a web-based reservation system that allows members to reserve a car on-line, 24-hours-a-day. The new web-based reservation system, launched this month, allows members to log onto the Internet and reserve any vehicle in the fleet. This quick access to vehicles has already proven to be so popular that internet reservations have quickly surpassed telephone reservations. " Within a few months, we anticipate that most of our members will be making their car or truck reservations on line," said Tim Vogel, general manager of Flexcar’s Washington Metropolitan area operations. Flexcar’s car sharing fleet recently expanded by two dozen vehicles in the Washington Metropolitan area, bringing the fleet of vehicles available to customers to 78. Twenty-four vehicles were added to the inventory this fall. The fleet includes gas/electric hybrid sedans, ultra low emissions vehicles (sedans), and a few pick-up trucks and sport utility vehicles which are parked at or near Metrorail stations or in transit-oriented neighborhoods. Flexcar vehicles are located at or near 49 Metrorail stations. " Flexcar continues to be a strong partner by helping to meet the needs of Metro’s customers," said Lora Byala, Metro’s Program Manager of Regional Planning. " Riders have shown that they appreciate the role that Metro is playing in providing a full menu of transportation options, and we" re particularly pleased that Flexcar continues to place its vehicles in economically and socially diverse communities."
