Metrobus service route changes in Virginia begin last week in December: Most schedule adjustments designed to improve service

Several service changes on Metrobus will be implemented on 11 routes in Virginia starting on December 28, for routes 12E, 12F, 12R, 12S, 15K, 16B, 16G, 16K, 16Y, 24M, and 24P. The details are listed below.12E, 12F Centreville South Line. Customers may continue to get on westbound not-in-service 12E buses, going to the Centreville Methodist Church Park & Ride Lot, at the stop on the south side of Old Centreville Road, east of Centrewood Drive. Customers may remain on the bus during layover for the start of eastbound trips to the Vienna/Fairfax-GMU Metrorail station. In Ocboter when the new Rts. 28/29 interchange opened, 12F buses were rerouted to run via I-66, Lee Highway, and Centrewood Drive and to serve the Trinity Centre office park. Timetables now will be updated to reflect these changes.12R, 12S Sully Station-Vienna Line. Buses will be rerouted to serve the new Sully Government Center Park & Ride lot, and bus schedules will change to reflect the new travel times. In the mornings, eastbound 12S buses will follow the present routing to Westfields and Stonecroft Boulevards, turn left on Stonecroft Boulevard and left at the entrance to the Sully Government Center parking lot. After serving the lot, buses will continue via Stonecroft Boulevard, Westfields Boulevard, and Walney Road and resume the present route to Vienna/Fairfax-GMU Metrorail station.In the afternoons, 12S westbound buses will follow the present route to Walney Road and Westfields Boulevard, turn left on Westfields Boulevard, right on Stonecroft Boulevard and left at the entrance to the Sully Government Center parking lot. Buses will continue via Stonecroft and Westfields Boulevards and Poplar Tree Road and resume the present route via Sully Station to Poplar Tree Road and Braddock Ridge Drive and continue to the Sully Government Center Park & Ride lot.The 12R buses will operate the reverse of the Park Meadow/Newbrook Drives loop so buses can exit the office park at Park Meadow Drive and Westfields Boulevard.In the mornings, the 12R buses will follow the current routing to Sully Road and Westfields Boulevard. Buses will turn right on Westfields Boulevard, right on Newbrook Drive, right on Park Meadow Drive, left on Westfields Boulevard, right on Stonecroft Boulevard and right on Lee Road and left on Conference Center Drive where buses will resume the present routing to the terminal at Sully Park and Sully Lake Drives.In the afternoons, 12R buses (except for the 2:18 p.m. bus from Centreville Methodist Park & Ride lot) will start at the Sully Government Center Park & Ride lot. From the lot, buses will turn right on Stonecroft Boulevard, left on Westfields Boulevard, right on Newbrook Drive, right on Park Meadow Drive, left on Westfields Boulevard, right on Stonecroft Boulevard, right on Lee Road and left on Conference Center Drive. Buses will cross Stonecroft Boulevard and continue via Conference Center Drive, Stonecroft Boulevard, Westfields Boulevard, Poplar Tree Drive, and Braddock Road where the present route will be resumed to the Vienna/Fairfax-GMU Metrorail station.15 K Chain Bridge Road Line. Eastbound buses from George Mason University at 3:08 and 4:11 p.m. will be changed to leave at 3 and 4:03 p.m.16B Columbia Pike Line. Buses which run via Pentagon City station after 11 p.m. weekdays and Saturdays and 10 p.m. on Sundays will be renamed as 16E. Bus times will not change.16G, 16K Columbia Heights West-Pentagon City Line. Weekday 16G and weekend 16K schedules will change to reflect current travel times between Pentagon City Metrorail station and Columbia Heights West. On Saturday and Sunday mornings prior to Metrorail opening, 16K buses will run on Army-Navy Drive and will no longer serve the stop on South Hayes Street at 12th Street. Customers may get on and off 16K buses at the stops on Army-Navy Drive at South Hayes Street.16Y Columbia Pike-Farragut Square Line. More service will be added to the weekday schedule. Buses going to McPherson Square Metrorail station will leave Barcroft at 6:30, 6:50, 7:05, 7:20, 7:35, 7:50, 8:05, 8:22, 8:40, and 9 a.m. Buses will leave McPherson Square Metrorail station going to Barcroft at 4:10, 4:40, 5:05, 5:25, 5:45, 6:10, 6:35, and 7 p.m.24M, 24P Ballston-Pentagon Line. 24M service will be discontinued between Columbia Pike and Court House Road via Walter Reed Drive, South Fillmore and 6th Streets. Buses will run as 24P service via Court House Road between Washington Boulevard and Columbia Pike. Weekday peak hour buses will continue to run every 20 to 30 minutes, but individual bus times will change. On weekdays during the midday and on Saturdays, buses will run every 60 minutes.
