Catherine Hudgins joins Metro board of directors

Catherine M. "Cathy" Hudgins, Hunter Mill District Supervisor, was elected to represent Fairfax County as an alternate member of the Boardof Directors of the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA). She replaces Katherine Hanley, who did not seek re-election as chairperson of the Fairfax Board of Supervisors and as a result, rotated off of Metro’s Board. A resident of Reston, VA, Ms. Hudgins was elected to the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors in November 1999. She is currently Chairperson of the Fairfax Board’s Human Services and Housing and Community Development Committees, Vice-Chairman of the InformationTechnology and Transportation Committees and a member of the EconomicAdvisory Committee. " I am eager to begin working with WMATA to increase transit use and accessibility throughout the metropolitan region. While Dulles Rail remains a focus of mine, I also am interested in finding ways to increase pedestrian access to transit and reach affordable solutions to eliminate impediments to transit commuting in Fairfax County and the region," noted Ms. Hudgins. Ms. Hudgins is a member of the Transportation Planning Board, the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (COG) Board of Directors, and the Human Services Policy Committee. She is also a member of the Northern Virginia Regional Commission and chairs its Human and Community Services Committee. She is a member of the Route 28 HighwayTransportation Improvement District Commission, and Secretary of the Area Health Education Center. Additionally, Ms. Hudgins is a member of the Virginia Association of Counties Board of Directors and was appointed by Virginia Governor Mark Warner to the State Emergency Medical Services Advisory Board. She earned her Masters of Public Administration (MPA) degree from George Mason University and her undergraduate degree in mathematics education from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. She is married and has two adult children.
