Metro prepares for possible inclement weather early next week

In anticipation of the potential winter storm scheduled for late Monday and all day Tuesday, Metro is making the following preparations:▸ Monitoring weather forecasts and conditions throughout the weekend, and preparing accordingly;▸ We will have all of our equipment and personnel on standby, ready to move into action as soon as the precipitation begins to fall;▸ If there is ice and sub-freezing temperatures on Monday night and Tuesday, we may experience third rail icing issues, especially on overhead, aerial tracks; our personnel will do the best it can to keep the third rail ice free, but the exposed, aerial tracks could be an issue;▸ If snow accumulations Monday night or Tuesday exceed the 8-12" inch range, we may shut down above ground service and operate underground only; it’s also possible that if we get several inches of the fluffy, powdery snow, some railcars might have to be taken out of service for repairs, which could make for shorter and more crowded trains Monday evening and/or Tuesday morning;▸ Metro would like to remind all of its customers to keep watching TV and listening to the radio to get the most current information on Metro’s status, and to use our other customer service information outlets, including our Internet web site (www.metroopensdoors.com), customer information number (202-637-7000), and the e-alert page system.
