Metro hosts workshop for Metro is Accessible program

Metro’s Office of Americans with Disabilities Act Programs is offering a free one-day " Train the Travel Trainer Workshop" on March 23. The workshop is an educational component of the Metro is Accessible project and is designed to identify and showcase the many accessibility features of Metrobus and Metrorail as well as recent system enhancements of which travel trainers may not be aware. The Metro is Accessible project educates people with disabilities and disability advocacy organizations about Metro’s accessibility features and services to encourage greater use of Metrorail and Metrobus by people with disabilities. The March workshop will help ensure that representatives of organizations which provide travel training have a comprehensive and consistent understanding of Metro’s fixed-route system and are conveying the most accurate and current information. Each attendee will receive a workshop manual that outlines Metro’s accessible rail and bus features. The workshop will be interactive and will include a demonstration component where attendees will have an opportunity to visit two Metrorail stations and examine an accessible low-floor bus featuring the stop announcement voice annunciator system. The workshop will be held from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Metro’s headquarters, 600 Fifth Street, NW, in Washington. To register for the program, call 202-962-1125 or TTY 202-962-2033.
