Metro announces construction work scheduled for this Weekend

Trains to share the same track on the Red Line

In preparation for the opening of the new, New York Avenue-Florida Avenue-Gallaudet U Metrorail station, Metro will perform construction work this weekend near the station. During this work period, customers’ trips may take longer than usual on the Red Line because trains will share one track. As a result of this construction work, on Saturday, March 13, Red Line trains will share the same track between Judiciary Square and Union Station from opening (7 a.m.) to 4 p.m. On Sunday, March 14, trains will share the same track between Judiciary Square and Rhode Island Avenue from opening (7 a.m.) to noon. Additionally, to expedite the flow of rail traffic this weekend, every other train departing the Grosvenor-Strathmore Metrorail station will terminate at the Judiciary Square Metrorail station and return to Grosvenor-Strathmore. Thus, waiting time between trains may be slightly longer than usual during this time. Customers may experience an additional wait of five to ten minutes and, therefore, should allow more time for their trip because of this work. To alert customers about this work, regular station and train announcements will be made throughout the Metrorail system. For more information on traveling by Metrorail or Metrobus, customers may call (202) 637-7000 or TDD (202) 638-3780, or visit Metro’s web site at www.metroopensdoors.com.
