Parking garage construction at New Carrollton Metrorail station set to begin
Park & Ride lot #1 to close during construction
Construction of a new 1,850-space parking garage at the New Carrollton Metrorail station will begin in April, resulting in the need to close Park & Ride Lot #1 at 10 p.m. on Friday, April 9, to accommodate the construction. Starting Monday, April 12, free shuttle buses will operate between the station and the Park & Ride LLC lot located at Pennsy Drive and Ardwick-Ardmore Road. A free Metrobus shuttle will operate between the lot and the station each weekday between 6 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. Shuttle buses will run every 15 minutes during rush hours and every 30 minutes at all other times. The first 210 Metro customers who show a valid Metrorail transfer each day will pay the Metro parking rate of $2.75 per day. All others must pay $5 to park. Construction is expected to continue for at least 20 months with the new garage slated to open in November 2005. Metro officials apologize for any inconvenience during the construction and caution customers to please be careful when passing by the construction site.
