Street detours impact Metrobus service on routes D2, D6 and D8

Two street projects with detours in the District of Columbia will impact Metrobus service along routes D2, D6 and D8. The 9th Street Bridge has been temporarily closed to traffic for three weeks by the District of Columbia Department of Transportation while officials make necessary bridge repairs and an upcoming utility and street repair project at Wisconsin Avenue and Q Street, NW, will result in a six-week detour. During the 9th Street Bridge repair work, northbound Metrobuses on route D8 will follow the regular route to Mount Olivet Road and West Virginia Avenue, NW. Buses will turn right on West Virginia Avenue to Montana Avenue. Continuing on Montana Avenue, buses will turn left onto Rhode Island Avenue, left onto Brentwood Road, left onto T Street and left onto 9th Street, where the regular route will resume. The southbound D8 bus route will follow the regular route to T and 9th Streets, NE. Buses will turn left onto 9th Street and continue on Brentwood Road to Rhode Island Avenue. Buses will turn right onto Rhode Island Avenue, right onto Montana Avenue, right onto West Virginia Avenue and left onto Mount Olivet Road, where the regular route will resume. Due to the short-term nature of this detour (approximately three weks), Metro will not change the bus schedule. Buses may run a few minutes behind schedule because the detour adds two miles in each direction to the route. The utility and street repair work at Wisconsin Avenue and Q Street, NW, will begin Sunday, April 18 with work expected to continue for approximately six weeks. Metrobus routes D2 and D8 will be detoured only between 10 p.m. and 6:30 a.m. Sundays through Thursdays throughout the project. Westbound Metrobuses will follow the regular route to P and 22nd streets, NW. Buses will continue on P Street, turn right onto Wisconsin Avenue and left onto Reservoir Road. The D2 buses will turn right onto 35th Street and resume running along the regular route. The D6 buses will continue on Reservoir Road where the regular route will be resumed. Eastbound Metrobuses will follow the regular route to 35th Street and Reservoir Road, NW. The D2 buses will turn left onto Reservoir Road, right onto Wisconsin Avenue, left onto P Street, left onto 22nd Street and right onto Q Street where the regular route will resume. The D6 buses will continue on Reservoir Road, turn right onto Wisconsin Avenue, left onto P Street, left onto 22nd Street, right onto Q Street and then continue along the regular route. The detour is not expected to impact bus travel times. Buses should run as scheduled.
