Metro names winners of its 2004 student poster contest

Metro’s student Poster of the Year was awarded to Youkeun Chang, a student at both Fairfax High School and the Young Art Studio, Fairfax, VA. Ms. Chang captured the top honors when Metro Board Chairman Robert Smith and Miss Maryland 2003, Marina Harrison, both announced the winners of Metro’s annual student poster contest. The transit agency named the 2004 winners, including the Poster of the Year, at a reception for the student artists and their parents and teachers on Friday, May 14, at Metro headquarters. This year’s posters all carried the theme, " Metro Matters to Me." There were 365 entries. Ms. Chang’s winning entry will be showcased on Metrobuses, in Metrorail stations, and on the Metro Web site, www.metroopensdoors.com. First, second and third place were awarded in the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia in the following categories in each jurisdiction: primary (grades K-3); elementary (grades 4-6); junior high (grades 7-9); and senior high (grades 10-12). Four grand prizes were awarded, one each for the primary, elementary, junior and senior high school categories. The Metro Employee Choice Awards were presented to Kristoffer Paul M. Recio of Kenilworth Elementary School, Bowie, MD, and Angela Oh of West Springfield High School, Springfield, VA. The grand prize in the primary division was awarded to Kristoffer Paul M. Recio of Kenilworth Elementary School, Bowie, MD. The grand prize in the elementary division was awarded to Joanna Kim of Cary Christian Academy and the Young Art Studio, Woodbridge, VA. The grand prize in the junior division was awarded to Gi-Young Kim of Longfellow Middle School, Falls Church, VA. The grand prize in the senior division was awarded to Heesung Kim of Chantilly High School and the Young Art Studio, Chantilly, VA.
