Charles Deegan joins Metro board

Charles Deegan has been appointed by Maryland Governor Robert L. Ehrlich, Jr. to the Board of the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (Metro) as a representative for Prince George’s County, MD. Mr. Deegan, 55, replaces Decatur Trotter on the Board. Mr. Trotter, who died earlier this month, was due to rotate off the Board at the end of June. " Charlie Deegan has been serving Prince George’s County for over 30 years, through his work in county government and in the community," Governor Ehrlich said. " Charlie has hands-on experience in keeping an agency moving. He will be an effective leader on the Metro Board in maintaining the system, improving agency efficiencies and promoting development around Prince George’s County Metrorail stations." " I appreciate Governor Ehrlich’s confidence in me," Mr. Deegan said. " I look forward to using my many years of public administration experience to serve the people of the Greater Washington area. I plan to be a very active Board member, and hope to get to know many of Metro’s employees--many of whom live in my home county." Mr. Deegan is Chief of the Equipment Maintenance Division in the Department of Public Works and Transportation for Prince George’s County, MD. During his more than 33 years as a Prince George’s County employee, he has also worked in the Zoning Enforcement Division, the Landlord-Tenant Office, the Department of Licenses and Permits, the Procurement Division and the Fleet Management Division. Mr. Deegan serves as the President of the Prince George’s County Board of Elections; is a representative from Maryland on the Standards Board of the United States Election Assistance Commission; is the Maryland Delegation Director for the International Association of Clerks, Recorders,Election Officials and Treasurers (IACREOT); is President of the Board of Directors for Prince George’s Employees Federal Credit Union; and serves as Vice-Chairman of the Church Council for Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Beltsville. Mr. Deegan and his wife, Bobbie, reside in Beltsville.
