Three public hearings set on proposed fare changes tolate-night rail and MetroAccess service

Three public hearings will be held in June on proposed fare changes to late night Metrorail and MetroAccess service. All three hearings begin at 7 p.m. with an open house conducted 30 minutes prior to each hearing.The hearings are being held by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority, the Washington Suburban Transit Commission, the Northern Virginia Transportation Commission and the District of Columbia. The public is being asked to comment on proposed adjustments to Metrorail fares during late closing hours between midnight and 3 a.m. as well as a proposal to charge a supplemental fare for MetroAccess service for all trips originating or destined to areas outside the 3/4-mile service area limit identified in federal requirements for ADA paratransit services. These proposed adjustments in fares would become effective on or about June 27. The three hearings will be held as follows:" Monday, June 7 (Hearing No. 511), in the Board Room of the Jackson Graham Building, 600 Fifth Street, NW, Washington, DC;" Monday, June 7 (Hearing No. 512) in the cafeteria at Takoma Park Middle School, 7611 Piney Branch Road, Silver Spring, MD; and" Tuesday, June 8 (Hearing No. 513) in the Senior Room of Falls Church Community Center, 223 Little Falls St., Falls Church, VA. All individuals who want to be heard are requested to provide in writing their name, address, telephone number and organization affiliation, if any, to Harold Bartlett, Secretary, WMATA, 600 Fifth Street, NW, Washington, DC 20001by mail or via fax at 202-962-1133. Only one speaker’s name per letter is accepted. People present at the hearing may be heard after those who have registered have spoken. Written statements may be submitted to Mr. Bartlett until close of business on June 9 by mail, fax, or e-mail at public-hearing-testimony@wmata.com.
