Metrobus service route changes in Virginiabegin the week of June 27


Schedule adjustments designed to improve service

Several service changes on Metrobus will be implemented on six lines in Virginia starting the week of June 27. These changes are in response to customer requests and will eliminate overcrowding on some routes, shorten passenger waits between trips on others, and improve transfer connections between buses and trains. Lee Highway Line, Route 3AThe eastbound routing via Backlick Road and Maple Place will be discontinued due to traffic congestion at the intersection of Little River Turnpike (VA Route 236) and Backlick Road. Trips will leave Patriot and Americana Drives one minute later than currently scheduled and operate via VA Route 236 eastbound to Annandale Road, then left on Annandale Road and continue along the current route on northbound Annandale Road at Maple Place. Two stops on Maple Place between Columbia Pike and Annandale Road will be discontinued. Customers may use a new stop on northbound Annandale Road, far side of VA Route 236 (which will become the new time point, replacing the Maple Place and Columbia Pike time point), or the stop on northbound Annandale Road at Markham Street.Lincolnia - North Fairlington Line, Routes 7A-XA new weekday schedule will be implemented to reflect more accurately the actual travel times required under current traffic conditions.Richmond Highway Line, Route 9AThe 50-cent reduced fare for Fairfax County trips will be discontinued. The regular fare will be charged on all 9A trips between Lorton, Fort Belvoir and the Pentagon.Mount Vernon Express Line, Route 11YA new weekday morning schedule will be implemented to reflect more accurately the actual travel times required under current traffic conditions. The afternoon schedule will not change.Columbia Pike Line, Routes 16A, B, D, E, F and JThe weekday eastbound trip leaving Culmore (Glen Carlyn and Vista Drives) at 8:58 a.m. will be discontinued. The weekday eastbound 16J trip leaving Culmore at 8:48 a.m. will be adjusted to leave at 8:54 a.m. Weekday westbound 16B and 16E trips leaving the Pentagon after 10:45 p.m. will be adjusted to leave from two to eight minutes later to coordinate with the southbound Blue Line train arrivals. The weekday eastbound 16E trips leaving Culmore after midnight at 12:34 a.m.(Monday through Friday) and 1:34 a.m. (Friday only) will be adjusted to leave at 12:38 and 1:36 a.m. Columbia Heights West - Pentagon City Line, Routes 16G, H and W OnlyRunning time on weekday westbound Route 16G trips arriving at Dinwiddie and 9th Streets after 5:15 p.m. will be reduced by up to three minutes west of Columbia Pike and Buchanan Street to reflect actual travel times in the Columbia Heights West loop. Corresponding eastbound 16G trips after 5:15 p.m. will be adjusted to maintain minimum layovers at Dinwiddie amd 9th Streets to minimize customer inconvenience. A new weekday eastbound 16H trip will be added leaving Four Mile Run Drive and Columbia Pike at 8:54 a.m. The 16W will be rerouted to operate via George Mason Drive in both directions between Columbia Pike and Four Mile Run Drive. Alternative service on Four Mile Run Drive between Columbia Pike and George Mason Drive is available on Routes 16H and 22A.
