Metro passes offer solution to soaring gas prices for visitors

A $3 Regional One-Day Bus Pass or a $6 One-Day Rail Pass makes it easy for families and out-of-town visitors to see the hundreds of regional sights in the Washington metropolitan area without letting the high prices of gasoline and downtown parking spoil anyone’s vacation plans. The bus passes give riders unlimited local access to the regional bus system and the rail passes give riders unlimited access starting at 9:30 a.m. weekdays and unlimited hours on weekends. " The passes offer sightseers the flexibility to travel all over the region,: said Leona Agouridis, Metro’s Assistant General Manager for Communications. " With a single convenient pass, people can travel to places including Arlington National Cemetery, Olde Towne Alexandria, the Smithsonian Institution, Eastern Market, the National Mall, the National Zoo, the National Cathedral, and shopping meccas such as Tysons Corner, White Flint, Dupont Circle and Gallery Place-Chinatown.Visitors can explore the sights and enjoy diverse dining options in places like Adams Morgan, Cleveland Park, Clarendon, Georgetown and Captiol Hill, among others." A Metrorail One Day Pass is good for unlimited Metrorail travel weekdays after 9:30 a.m. or all day on weekends or federal holidays. The pass expires at the end of the operating day" 3 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, midnights on other nights. A One-Day Metrobus Pass is $3 and is good for unlimited rides regionwide on Metrobuses and other regional buses for one full day.
