Metro to sell SmarTrip® cards at "Live on Penn" Saturdays

Metro staff will be selling SmarTrip® cards Saturdays at the Toyota Scion Live on Penn events this summer. Toyota Scion Live on Penn offers live music every Saturday from July 10 through the summer (except Labor Day Weekend) from rock to hip hop and jam to reggae starting at 4 p.m. on Pennsylvania Avenue near Third Street, NW. SmarTrip® is a rechargeable farecard that can be used to pay for parking, Metrorail rides, and some Metrobus routes (expanding to all Metrobuses by the end of summer). The card is plastic" like a credit card" and is imbedded with a computer chip that keeps track of the value of the card and facilitates electronic communications with SmarTrip® " targets." SmarTrip® cards cost $5 each. Customers may add up to $200 in value on a SmarTrip® card, so it can last a long time between charging. SmarTrip® is available for purchase by cash or credit/debit card at any of three Metro sales offices; at any of 11 commuter stores; at special retail outlets; via U.S. mail; at any of six specific Metrobus divisions; or online at http://www.wmata.com/riding/smartrip.cfm. Locations of SmarTrip® sales locations are also available online or by calling 202-637-7000. If someone loses a SmarTrip® card, they don" t lose the value. For a $5 fee to replace the card itself, Metro will reissue a new SmarTrip® card with the value on the card at the time the customer notified officials that it was lost. For this valuable replacement feature, customers must register their card, either at the point of purchase, via the mail or online. Local bands as well as up-and-coming new groups will share the stage for the live music concerts. Cost is $5 in advance or $7 at the gate. The July line-up includes:" July 10 - Eve 6, Old 97’s, The Speaks, Practically Einstein" July 17 - Galactic, Nappy Roots, The Peoples Band, Cravin" Dogs" July 24 - They Might Be Giants, Fountains of Wayne, Getaway Car, Blufunk The Toyota Scion Live on Penn events are conveniently located near Metro’s Archives-Navy Memorial Metrorail station serving the Yellow and Green Lines. The event also can be reached via Metrobus routes 30, 32, 34, 35 and 36. To find our more about the festival information, visit www.liveonpenn.com.
