Metro announces weekend track work on the Orange Line
As part of its ongoing program to improve customer service and continue the rehabilitation of the 28-year-old Metrorail system, trains will share one track this weekend on a portion of the Orange Line. During this work period, customers’ trips will take 10-15 minutes longer than usual.
Please note the following track work scheduled for this weekend:
" Orange Line - between Vienna/Fairfax-GMU and West Falls Church-VT/UVA. This work will start on Friday, July 16, at 10 p.m., and conclude Saturday, July 17, at closing (3 a.m.).
To perform this work, Metro must single-track trains - operate trains traveling in opposite directions alternately on the same track.
On the Orange Line between Vienna/Fairfax-GMU and West Falls Church-VT/UVA, Metro personnel will perform track maintenance on the double crossover switch outside of the West Falls Church-VT/UVA Metrorail station.
To help expedite the flow of travel to and from downtown Washington, every other Metrorail train operating from New Carrollton to Vienna/Fairfax-GMU will terminate at West Falls Church-VT/UVA and return back to New Carrollton.
Customers traveling between Vienna/Fairfax-GMU and West Falls Church-VT/UVA, should allow an additional 10-15 minutes for travel between these locations.
