Metro announces weekend single tracking on the Red Line

In preparation for the opening of the New York Avenue-Florida Avenue-Gallaudet U Metrorail station on the Red Line, the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (Metro) will single-track trains this weekend between Judiciary Square and Rhode Island Avenue. During this work period, customers’ trips will take 10-15 minutes longer than usual.

Please note the following schedule for this weekend:

" Red Line - between Judiciary Square and Rhode Island Avenue. This work will start on Friday, July 16, at 9 p.m., and conclude Saturday, July 17, at 9 a.m.

To perform this work, Metro must single-track trains - operate trains traveling in opposite directions alternately on the same track. This weekend, Metro personnel will install new communications cables for the New York Avenue-Florida Avenue-Gallaudet U Metrorail station and therefore, it will require personnel to be in key safety-sensitive areas of the rail system.
