Metro announces weekend single tracking

This weekend, Metro will perform several track projects on the Red, Orange and Blue Lines. During this work period, customers’ trips will take 10-15 minutes longer than usual. Please note the following schedule for this weekend:" Red Line - On Saturday, August 21, and Sunday, August 22, from opening (7 a.m.) to 7 p.m., trains will share one track between Rhode Island Avenue and Judiciary Square. [To help expedite the flow of rail travel, all Red Line trains which normally operate between Grosvenor-Strathmore and Silver Spring, will terminate at Judiciary Square and return to Grosvenor-Strathmore.]" Orange Line - On Saturday, August 21, from opening (7 a.m.) to 6 p.m., trains will share one track between Vienna/Fairfax-GMU and Dunn Loring. [To help expedite the flow of rail travel, every other Orange Line train traveling to Vienna/Fairfax-GMU will instead terminate at West Falls Church-VT/UVA and return to New Carrollton." Blue Line - On Saturday, August 21, starting at 10 p.m., and continuing through Sunday, August 22, at midnight (closing), trains will share one track between Stadium Armory and Addison Road-Seat Pleasant. To perform this work, Metro must single-track trains - operate trains traveling in opposite directions alternately on the same track. On the Red Line between Rhode Island Avenue and Judiciary Square, Metro personnel will continue to install new communications cables and wayside track equipment for the New York Avenue-Florida Avenue-Gallaudet U Metrorail station scheduled to open at the end of this year. On the Orange Line between Vienna/Fairfax-GMU and Dunn Loring, Metro personnel will perform routine track maintenance. On the Blue Line between Stadium Armory and Addison Road-Seat Pleasant, Metro personnel will conduct automatic train control testing of circuits and switches in support of the Blue Line extension to Largo, which is scheduled to open at the end of this year.
