Metro hosts safety "open houses" at rail stations during National Preparedness Month in September

Metro officials will host eight lunchtime "open houses"at different Metrorail stations during September in an effort to teach customers about transit-related emergency preparedness as a part of National Preparedness Month.

Officials from the Metro Transit Police, System Safety and Risk Protection and Communications departments will be on hand to respond to questions from customers as well as to distribute brochures and pamphlets related to emergency preparedness in the Metro system.

The lunchtime open houses will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the following dates and locations:

" Tuesday, Sept. 7 at L" Enfant Plaza Metrorail station

" Thursday, Sept. 9 at Metro Center Metrorail station

" Tuesday, Sept. 14 at Union Station Metrorail station

" Thursday, Sept. 16 at Gallery Place-Chinatown Metrorail station

" Tuesday, Sept. 21 at Pentagon Metrorail station

" Thursday, Sept. 23 at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport Metrorail station

" Tuesday, Sept. 28 at Smithsonian Metrorail station

" Thursday, Sept. 30 at Capitol South Metrorail station This series of lunchtime open houses has been planned to begin a dialogue with Metro customers. In addition to distributing emergency preparedness information, Metro personnel will speak to customers on issues of safety; answer questions; address concerns; and challenge them to join Metro in its ongoing mission to create a safe transit environment.
