Metro announces weekend single tracking on the Orange Line

As part of its ongoing program to improve customer service, and to continue the ongoing repair and rehabilitation of the 28-year-old Metrorail system, Metro will conduct a rehabilitation project this weekend on a portion of the Orange Line. During this work period, customers" trips will take 10-15 minutes longer than usual. Please note the following schedule for this weekend:" Orange Line - between Vienna/Fairfax-GMU and West Falls Church VT/UVA. This work will start on Friday, September 3, at 10 p.m., and conclude Monday, September 6, at closing (midnight). [To help expedite the flow of rail travel, every other Orange Line train operating to Vienna/Fairfax-GMU, will terminate at West Falls Church VT/UVA and return to New Carrollton.] To perform this work, Metro must single-track trains " operate trains traveling in opposite directions alternately on the same track. This weekend, Metro personnel will repair and rehabilitate the double crossover switch at the Vienna/Fairfax GMU Metrorail station and therefore, it will require personnel to be in key safety-sensitive areas of the rail system.
