Metro announces weekend single tracking

This weekend, Metro will conduct a major track rehabilitation project on the Orange Line, and continue to do track maintenance work on the Red Line in preparation for the opening of the New York Avenue-Florida Avenue-Gallaudet U Metrorail station. During this work period, customers’ trips will take 10-15 minutes longer than usual.Please note the following schedule for this weekend:" Red Line - Starting Friday, September 24, at 9:30 p.m., and continuing through Sunday, September 26, at closing (midnight), trains will share one track between Rhode Island Avenue and Judiciary Square. [To help expedite the flow of rail travel, all Red Line trains which normally operate between Grosvenor-Strathmore and Silver Spring, will terminate at Judiciary Square and return to Grosvenor-Strathmore.]" Orange Line - between Vienna/Fairfax-GMU and West Falls Church VT/UVA. This work will start on Friday, September 24, at 10 p.m., and conclude Sunday, September 26, at closing (midnight). [To help expedite the flow of rail travel, every other Orange Line train operating to Vienna/Fairfax-GMU, will terminate at West Falls Church VT/UVA and return to New Carrollton.] To perform this work, Metro must single-track trains - operate trains traveling in opposite directions alternately on the same track. On the Red Line between Rhode Island Avenue and Judiciary Square, Metro personnel will continue to do track maintenance work, and continue the installation of track equipment for the New York Avenue-Florida Avenue-Gallaudet U Metrorail station which is scheduled to open on Saturday, November 20.This weekend, Metro personnel will repair and rehabilitate the double crossover switch at the Vienna/Fairfax GMU Metrorail station and therefore, it will require personnel to be in key safety-sensitive areas of the rail system.
