Metro Transit Police to Honor Officer Marlon MoralesWith a Special Plaque at the U Street-African American Civil War Memorial/Cardozo Metrorail Station

On Monday, October 18, at 10 a.m., the Metro Transit Police Department will host a ceremony dedicating a plaque in honor of Metro Transit Police Officer Marlon Francisco Morales at the U Street-African American Civil War Memorial/Cardozo Metrorail station.

Officer Morales was shot in the line of duty on June 10, 2001, at the U Street/African American Civil War Memorial/Cardozo Metrorail station, on routine patrol while intervening in a fare dispute. He succumbed to his wounds three days later at the Washington Hospital Center, June 13, 2001.

" We will honor Marlon for the sacrifice he made while proudly serving the Metro Transit Police Department," said Polly Hanson, Metro’s Chief of Police. " While Officer Morales was with us for only a short time, he made a very positive impression on those of us who were fortunate enough to know him. This plaque will honor his dedication to his profession as a police officer, and to his family, friends and colleagues for doing what he loved the most -- being a police officer."
