Metro provides update on this morning’s Red Line delay

A serious problem with a four-foot piece of track at the Judiciary Square Metrorail station caused extensive delays on the Red Line this morning. At 7:39 a.m. the problem meant trains were unable to pass through the Judiciary Square Metrorail station for about 40 minutes, causing delays throughout the morning. Trains were able to single track at 8:20 a.m.

Track crews converged on Judiciary Square Metrorail station to assess the situation and begin to make repairs. They are currently working to fix the problem as quickly as possible.

Red Line trains are being single-tracked between Farragut North and Judiciary Square stations.

Metro officials are treating the situation with the highest level of urgency.

Metro arranged for 31 free shuttle buses between Gallery Place-Chinatown and Brookland-CUA Metrorail stations to take customers to downtown stations. "Delays are likely to continue through the morning as crews work to fix the problem. We are doing everything possible to get this stretch of track back in service safely," said Steven Feil, Metro’s Chief Operating Officer for Rail. "We’re sorry about the delays and we want our customers to know that our number one priority right now is to get the rail line back to normal."
