Metro Halloween spooky bus "haunts" the Anacostia Metrorail station this Friday

Area children invited to participate in costume contest

Metro’s annual ’haunted’ bus will be on display at the Anacostia Metrorail station at Shannon Place, S.E., between Martin Luther King Jr., and Firth Sterling avenues on Friday, October 29, from 3 to 5:30 p.m.

The Halloween Spooky Bus will send chills down your spine with its ghoulish decor and hair-raising music. After a trip through the bus, children will receive free Halloween trick-or-treat bags filled with goodies.

In addition, children aged four to 12 are invited to participate in a costume contest. Metrobus employees will award five prizes to the children with the spookiest costumes. The first-place winner will receive $50. Other prizes include movie passes for a family of four, McDonald’s gift certificates and a book bag filled with school supplies.

Bus transportation and maintenance employees from the Southern Avenue and Southeastern Metrobus divisions participate in this annual event, now in its 14th year, for residents in Southeast Washington, D.C. They donate their own time, decorating skills, talent and money to outfit the bus and purchase treats for the children.

"We feel that it’s very important to give back to the community which has shown its support of Metrobus by using our service throughout the year," said Herbert Stroman, a Southeastern Bus Division operator and one of the organizers of this event." This year we’re adding to the Halloween spirit with the costume contest."Southern Avenue and Southeastern bus employees believe that the Halloween bus event is a great way for children and their parents to safely observe Halloween and avoid being on the street after dark to trick or treat.
