Metrorail to open at 6 a.m. this Sunday morning for the 29th Annual Marine Corps Marathon

All runners, volunteers, and spectators are encouraged to take Metro

This Sunday, October 31, the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (Metro) will open the Metrorail at 6 a.m., one hour earlier than usual to support the 29th Annual Marine Corps Marathon. The race is expected to begin at 8:30 a.m., and end late Sunday afternoon. Due to the Marine Corps Marathon route, Metrobuses that normally use the Pentagon Transit Center on Sunday will be relocated to the Pentagon City Metrorail station between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Customers who normally travel to the Pentagon and transfer to a Metrobus will need to ride to Pentagon City on the Blue and Yellow Lines to catch their bus. More than 33,000 runners, volunteers, and spectators are expected to use the Metrorail system to get to the race. The marathon will begin at Route 110 and Marshall Drive near the Pentagon, wind through Washington, D.C., around the monuments, and finish at the Iwo Jima Memorial. Metro expects the most heavily used stations will be the Rosslyn station on the Blue and Orange Lines, Arlington Cemetery on the Blue Line and the Pentagon station on the Blue and Yellow Lines. Customers should also call (202) 637-7000 or TTY (202) 638-3780 for more information on traveling by Metrobus or Metrorail, or log onto the Metro web site at www.metroopensdoors.com.
