Metro provides update on train collision at Woodley Park-Zoo/Adams Morgan Metrorail station

Metro will operate eight-car trains along the Red Line this evening to move customers around the Woodley Park-Zoo/Adams Morgan Metrorail station due to a collision inside the station earlier this afternoon. Red Line trains will run every six minutes because trains will single-track around the incident. Trains will not stop at the Woodley Park Metrorail station because it is closed. Metro will be charging off-peak fares during the evening rush hour due to the seriously impacted service level.

Customers" trips on the Red Line will take longer than usual the rest of the day and into the evening due to the collision. Red Line riders are encouraged to head home later than usual or to plan for long waits and crowds. Shuttle buses are available at Farragut North, Dupont Circle, Woodley Park and Cleveland Park Metrorail stations. Metrobus route L2 also services that stretch of Connecticut Avenue.

Metro does not anticipate being able to return to normal service in time for the Thursday morning commute. Customers should plan accordingly.

At 12:49 p.m., two Metrorail trains collided at the Woodley Park-Zoo/Adams Morgan Metrorail station. A six-car train that was not carrying passengers because it was not in revenue service drifted backward and collided with a six-car train that was servicing the Woodley Park-Zoo/Adams Morgan Metrorail station. The cause of the collision is not yet known.

Metro emergency personnel and other local first responders are at the scene investigating the incident. Preliminary reports were that 20 individuals with minor, non-life threatening injuries were transported to local hospitals
