Arlington Cemetery Metrorail station elevator to be modernized, Landover elevator work postponed until end of football season

Shuttle bus service will be available for those who need itduring 10-week project

The modernization of the Metrorail station elevator at the Arlington Cemetery station will begin Monday, November 22. The elevator work previously scheduled at the Landover station which was also supposed to begin on November 22 has been postponed until after the last Redskins home game because so many Redskins fans use that station during the season.

The platform elevator accessing the Blue Line toward Addison Road-Seat Pleasant at Arlington Cemetery Metrorail station is scheduled to be out of service for 10 weeks. A temporary shuttle bus is available for customers who request it. The elevator is expected to return to service by the end of January.

Customers who normally enter or exit at the Arlington Cemetery Metrorail station who are unable to use the escalator should call 202-962-1825 in advance of their trip to enable Metro officials to have a shuttle bus waiting to take them to the Pentagon station to enter the Metrorail system. Buses are stationed in the area to accommodate these customers.

An elevator modernization includes replacing a majority of the mechanical parts and elevator cab equipment with new ones to ensure the elevator operates safely and reliably for customers, and extends the lifecycle of the elevator.
