Metro announces weekend single tracking

This weekend, Metro will conduct a track rehabilitation project on the Orange Line. During this work period, customers’ trips will take 10-15 minutes longer than usual. Please note the following schedule for this weekend:

  • Orange Line - Starting on Friday, December 17, at 10 p.m., and continuing through Sunday, December 19, at closing (midnight), trains will share one track between Vienna/Fairfax-GMU and West Falls Church-VT/UVA. [To help expedite the flow of rail travel, every other Orange Line train operating to Vienna/Fairfax-GMU, will terminate at West Falls Church-VT/UVA and return to New Carrollton.]
To perform this work, Metro must single-track trains - operate trains traveling in opposite directions alternately on the same track. On the Orange Line between West Falls Church VT/UVA and Vienna/Fairfax-GMU, Metro personnel will perform routine track maintenance at the West Falls Church VT/UVA station, and therefore, it will require personnel to be in key safety-sensitive areas of the rail system. For more information on traveling by Metrorail or Metrobus, customers may call (202) 637-7000, TTY at (202) 638-3780.
