Metro Transit Police donate toys for tots

The Metro Transit Police Department (MTPD) participated in the annual Toys for Tots toy drive this month, donating more than 100 new toys for needy children in the Washington metropolitan area. MTPD delivered the toys to a local collection facility at Bolling Air Force Base this week. MTPD set up collection boxes for toys at its various police stations and offices from December 6 to December 17. Of note, one police officer auctioned off a replica antique radio that raised $220. Transit Police used that money to purchase additional toys. Annual support of the Toys for Tots program is just one of the ways Transit Police officers give back to the communities they serve. This past Thanksgiving, for example, officers held a food drive to provide meals for needy families. " We had great turnout for this year’s Toys for Tots toy drive and Thanksgiving food drive. It’s wonderful to see the caring and generous spirit of our officers, particularly during the holiday season," said MTPD Chief Polly Hanson.
