Metro announces weekend single tracking

This weekend, Metro will perform routine track maintenance on the Orange Line. During this work period, customers’ trips will take 10-15 minutes longer than usual.

Please note the following schedule for this weekend:

Orange Line - On Saturday, January 29, and Sunday, January 30, from opening (7 a.m.) to 6 p.m., trains will share one track between West Falls Church-VT/UVA and Vienna/Fairfax-GMU. To help expedite the flow of rail travel, every other Orange Line train operating to Vienna/Fairfax-GMU, will terminate at West Falls Church-VT/UVA and return to New Carrollton.

To perform this work, Metro must single-track trains  operate trains traveling in opposite directions alternately on the same track. On the Orange Line between West Falls Church-VT/UVA and Vienna/Fairfax-GMU, Metro personnel will perform routine track maintenance and therefore, it will require personnel to be in key safety-sensitive areas of the rail system.
