Vienna/Fairfax-GMU Metro North Parking Garage to undergo rehabilitation

This month, the Vienna/Fairfax-GMU Metrorail station north parking structure will start to undergo a rehabilitation project involving structural, drainage, and stairwell upgrades, as well as repaving. This work will occur in 10 phases, and continue for the next two years.

The work at this four-level, 1,871 parking space structure will result in the temporary loss of 180 parking spaces during the duration of the project. The structure will remain open during the rehabilitation. Disabled-accessible and reserved parking spaces will be relocated at various stages of work. As part of the rehabilitation, 10 new disabled-accessible parking spaces will be added to the facility, increasing the total number of parking spaces to 1,881.

Customers should plan for crowding in the north parking structure and are encouraged to try other commuting options such as taking a bus to the station instead of a car. Metrobus offers service to and from the Vienna/Fairfax-GMU Metrorail station. Customers can secure travel information through the Trip Planner located on Metro’s Web site at www.metroopensdoors.com.

The Fairfax Connector also serves the Vienna/Fairfax-GMU Metrorail station, and Fairfax County offers several Park and Ride facilities for commuters. Park and Ride facilities with bus service to the Vienna/Fairfax-GMU station include:

  • Centreville - Route 29 and Stone Road;

    The changes to the parking facility are being made to provide upgrades and to make it more attractive for customers. The Authority apologizes for any inconvenience to its customers during the rehabilitation work.
