Metro celebrates Black History Month

Metro is partnering with the Conference of Minority Transportation Officials (COMTO) to host a Black History Month event at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 17, at Metro headquarters, 600 Fifth St., NW in Washington.

Horace Holmes, ABC 7/WJLA-TV’s weekend news co-anchor, will speak on Black History Month, his career and the role that communication plays in building communities. Gwen Harris-Gale will represent COMTO at the tribute and will introduce Mr. Holmes.

The "Metro All Star Jazz Group," a group of employees who share a talent and love for jazz, will perform. In addition to playing several pieces, they will welcome everyone with the sounds of African drum beats. As in years past, Metro’s Black employees will be honored with a slide presentation on the many contributions they make to the organization. This month, the "Great Blacks in Wax" Museum, in Baltimore, MD, will have on display two very famous persons: Philip Randolph and Dorothy Height. Both have major contributions to American history and information on the lives and careers of each will be displayed in the room during the informal reception that follows the formal employee program.
