Metro ridership soars on March 30
Third day this month that tops 700,000
Metrorail is continuing to rewrite its own history books with new ridership records as the month of March comes to a close. Wednesday, March 30th, marked the occasion when Metrorail reached its sixth highest weekday ridership day ever with 748,751 trips taken by passengers, most of them in town to attend cherry blossom events.
"The nice spring weather, along with the return of tourists, school spring breaks, and the anticipation of the cherry blossoms have all combined to bring record numbers of passengers to Metrorail this week," stated Metro’s GM/CEO Richard A. White. "To all of our loyal and new passengers who have utilized Metrorail this week, we say ’thank you.’"

The top two Metrorail ridership days still remain President Reagan’s State Funeral Ceremony in June 2004 with 850,636 passenger trips; and President Clinton’s first inaugural ceremony in January 1993, with 811,257 trips.
Three days this month, saw ridership exceed the 700,000 mark. Tuesday, March 22nd, Metrorail carried 721,731 passenger trips; and last Thursday, March 24th, Metrorail carried 720,131 passenger trips.
