Wednesday’s Metrorail Ridership Soars as Cherry Blossoms Are Near Peak
Third Day This Month That Tops 700,000
Metrorail continues to rewrite its own history books with new ridership records for the month of April. Wednesday, April 6th, marked the occasion when Metrorail reached its sixth highest weekday ridership day ever with 755,559 trips taken by passengers, most of them in town to attend cherry blossom events.
"The nice spring weather, along with the return of tourists, school spring breaks, and the cherry blossoms have combined to bring record numbers of passengers to Metrorail this week," stated Metro’s Chief Operating Officer for Rail Services, Steven Feil. "To everyone utilizing Metrorail this week, we say ’thank you.’"

The top two Metrorail ridership days still remain President Reagan’s State Funeral Ceremony in June 2004 with 850,636 passenger trips; and President Clinton’s first inaugural ceremony in January 1993, with 811,257 trips.
Three days this month, saw ridership exceed the 700,000 mark. Tuesday, April 5th, Metrorail carried 728,293 passenger trips; and last Friday, April 1st, Metrorail carried 721,051 passenger trips.
