Metro Board to host town hall meeting tomorrow night

Following on the success of its first-ever Town Hall Meeting last November, the Board of Directors of the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (Metro) will host its second Town Hall Meeting tomorrow night, Tuesday, April 12, at George Mason High School, 7124 Leesburg Pike, Falls Church, VA.

At this meeting, customers will have the opportunity to talk to members of the Metro Board as well as senior management on a variety of issues dealing with Metrorail, Metrobus and MetroAccess.

This meeting will include an open house, which is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. The Town Hall Meeting will begin at 7 p.m., and conclude at 9 p.m.

"By regularly involving our customers, we are making a collective commitment toward outreach, availability and accountability," said Metro Board Chairman Dana Kauffman. "Our Town Hall Meetings will help recapture and accentuate for our customers the regional linkage and shared understanding that first gave life to Metro."

Bob Levey, Senior Vice President for Development at the Washington Hospital Center and former columnist with The Washington Post, will moderate the Town Hall Meeting. Mr. Levey hosted the first meeting last November and has written extensively on Metro-related issues over the years.

The public will be invited to submit questions to Metro’s Board, and Mr. Levey, as the moderator, will direct the questions to Board members to facilitate a discussion.

Prior to the start of and during the Town Hall Meeting, Metro will host an open house to allow Metro customers to view exhibits, pick up some additional information and talk to officials about a variety of topics including future bus projects, safety and security, dedicated funding, new rail cars and employment opportunities. The open house begins at 6 p.m.
