Federal Triangle and East Falls Church Metrorail Station elevators to be modernized

Shuttle bus service will be available for those who need it during 10-week project

The modernization of two Metrorail station elevators at the Federal Triangle and East Falls Church Metrorail stations will begin in the next two weeks. Work will start on the platform elevator at Federal Triangle, Monday, April 25, and on the station entrance elevator at East Falls Church on Monday, May 2. Both elevators are scheduled to be out of service for 10 weeks during which time temporary shuttle buses will be available for customers upon request. The elevators are expected to return to service in July.

Customers who normally enter or exit at the Federal Triangle or the East Falls Church Metrorail station and are unable to use the escalator should call 202-962-1825 in advance of their trip to enable Metro officials to have a shuttle bus waiting to take them to either the Smithsonian station (from Federal Triangle) or to the West Falls Church station (from East Falls Church) to enter the Metrorail system. Buses are stationed in the area to accommodate these customers.

An elevator modernization includes replacing a majority of the mechanical parts and elevator cab equipment with new ones to ensure the elevator operates safely and reliably for customers, and extends the lifecycle of the elevator.
