Metrobus 28th Annual Roadeo Winners Named

The 28th Annual Metrobus Roadeo saw Robert L. Miles of Bowie, MD, as the first place winner, marking the 17th time in the history of the Roadeo that he captured the top award. Mr. Miles works at the Landover Bus Division in Prince Georges County, MD. He demonstrated his excellent driving skills on an obstacle course as well as attaining points for personal appearance, smoothness of operation and safety habits.

Second place was captured by Garvin Howard of Landover, MD, who also works out of the Landover Bus Division, and third place was taken by Thomas Hobbs of Waldorf, MD, out of the Four Mile Run Bus Division in Arlington, VA.

The first place mechanics team consists of Truc Hoang of Centreville, VA, William Morgan of Bowie, MD, and Locksley McKenzie of Spotsylvania, VA, who all work out of the Bladensburg heavy overhaul facility in Washington, DC.

The first place operator and maintenance teams will travel to Dallas, TX, to represent Metro at the International Bus Roadeo in September.

The second place mechanics team out of the Montgomery Garage in Montgomery County, MD, included Leonard Makowski of Beltsville, MD, John Epps, Jr., of Germantown, MD, and Michael Harris of Laurel, MD. The third place mechanics team, a split team from Four Mile Run, Royal Street and the Arlington Garage, consisted of Oscar Hilliard of Upper Marlboro, MD, John Curry of Hyattsville, MD, and Patrick Glenn of Upper Marlboro, MD.

The mechanics team had to search for planted defects on a bus and troubleshoot components, including engine modules, an air conditioning module and an air brake board. The team which located the greatest number of defects in the shortest period of time for these modules won the competition.
