Metro Ready to Handle Crowds Attending 2005 Andrews Air Force Base Open House and Air Show

Free Shuttle Bus Service from Branch Avenue and FedEx Field

For the fourth consecutive year, Metro is preparing to move thousands of people to the Andrews Air Force Base Open House and Air Show on Saturday, May 21, and Sunday, May 22. The Open House and Air Show is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. To accommodate the number of attendees, 300 Metrobuses will be available to provide free shuttle bus service from Metro’s Branch Avenue station on the Green Line, and from FedEX Field for those parking at that site, to Andrews Air Force Base.

This weekend, all trains on the Green Line will operate on a normal weekend schedule. However, Metro will have extra trains ready to go into service if necessary.

People attending the Air Show are reminded of these travel tips:

Customers are encouraged to purchase the $6.50 One-Day Pass, a round-trip farecard or SmarTrip card to and from the Branch Avenue station when first entering the Metrorail system to avoid long lines on the return trip.

The last Metrobuses from Branch Avenue and FedEX Field will depart at 2:30 p.m., respectively in preparation for the afternoon Blue Angels performance.

Parking at Metro-owned-and-operated lots is free on weekends.

Metro encourages patrons not to bring coolers, backpacks, food or drink items to the event, because those items are not permitted on the Air Force Base.

Customers are encouraged to call Metro for more information about riding Metrobus or Metrorail at (202) 637-7000 or TTY (202) 638-3780. Customers can also log on to Metro’s Web site at www.metroopensdoors.com.
